TweetCaster – another blackberry twitter app

Posted on 21. Jul, 2009 by David Y in Technology

With twitter still be the craze for many people it just seems that having one more twitter app for the BlackBerry can’t hurt a bit. So for those wondering if they should convert from there current twitter app to this one, or for those wondering what all the hype is.. here is a review as well as a list of features this app comes with.

  • URL shortening
  • Picture sharing
  • @replies & retweets
  • GPS locator
  • Toggle multiple accounts
  • Trending topics

Ease of Download

For starters this is where an app makes or breaks itself. I know personally I hate jumping through hoops to download an app, no matter how good it may look or how many earth shattering features it may bring to the table. But with TweetCaster downloading is quite simple. All you do is type in your twitter account information, then click post tweet and shortly after it takes you to another page where you input your telephone number so a download link can be sent to you via SMS.

With a relatively small file size the download is complete in no time. Installation is a breeze as well.

Ease of Setup

Setting up your account is easy as pie. All you have to do is type in your account name and password for twitter and voila your down. It then takes you to another screen where you can view the accounts you have on your phone. Once that part is out of the way it is then time to enjoy all the other features of the application.

Ease of Use

TweetCaster is a very lightweight app it does not appear to have an auto update feature, which might be a deal breaker for some but on the good side after using this application for a while it doesn’t greatly impact battery life.

With each tweet you send out there is the ability to attach your location, attach your picture, insert a tinyurl and even take a picture to attach.

While you are typing out your tweet it shows how many characters you have left to use, which to me is very handy and something I’ve noticed not all twitter apps have.  After your done typing out your message and you hit send it takes less than a few seconds for it to post and to me that is the deal breaker since I’m running on a Edge network.

Retweeting is as easy as 1-2-3. No having to type in any user names, just select the tweet you want to repost and voila your done.

Attaching pictures is relatively simple. It displays your images in a list format and you do have to search for where they are, it doesn’t readily find them itself.  It uses Twitpic as the picture attachment service and during this process you can preview each picture as well.

Overall its a great app and the price is great as well FREE!!! Definitely an app worth trying out. Tested on the Following models. BlackBerry 8900 and 9500.

Pictures are included below so you can get a better look at TweetCaster.

Hope you enjoyed my review.
